This is the first sight upon arrival at the port of Lisbon. It's San Francisco meets Rio de Janerio. And yes, it was American engineers that designed both this bridge and the Golden Gate, and the statue in the distance is a smaller copy of the statue in Brazil. This statue was built to represent the Portuguese people's dedication to Christian peace as they assumed a position of neutrality in the second World War.
